Rinse and sort cranberries, discarding any crushed or brown ones.

Make a simple syrup: Boil together a cup of water and a cup of sugar.

Add cranberries all at once to boiling syrup.

When syrup returns to a boil, reduce heat to low for ten minutes.

Remove pan from heat; crush all berries flat against pan sides.

Move sauce into canning jars OR let cool until time to serve.
