Speed Training Interval Run When you are doing a 1600M Repeat, you should attempt to run at about your 5K race pace. If you do not know your 5K race pace, you should run at a pace that is slightly faster than your normal running pace, an RPE of about 7.

RPE stands for Rate of Perceived Exertionand is based on a 10-point scale.

10 = extreme exertion -- conversation is impossible

8 = high effort -- conversation is extremely labored

6 = optimum effort -- conversation is difficult, but possible

4 = medium effort -- conversation is easy to maintain

2 = warm up
